Correspondence, reports, and miscellany concerning the founding, annual reunions, and other meetings of an organization established in 1875 by pioneers who settled in the Minnesota portion of the St. Croix River valley before 1860. Also included are biographical sketches, membership lists, obituaries, letters, and questionnaires containing information on early settlers and on members of the First Minnesota Infantry, Company B, collected by association secretary Adam Marty.

The association got its start at an informal meeting (October 20, 1875) held in Stillwater, Minnesota, at which it was decided to form an organization for people who had settled in the St. Croix River Valley prior to 1860. A November 5 meeting in the Stillwater law offices of Durant and Wheeler established the association, which was initially chaired by Charles E. Leonard, with David B. Loomis serving as its secretary. Marty, Adam, 1837-1923.

Adam Marty was born in Switzerland on August 2, 1839 and immigrated with his grandparents to St. Louis in 1846. He moved to Stillwater, Minnesota in 1849 where he worked as a printer. Following the outbreak of the Civil War, Marty enlisted in Company B of the First Minnesota Infantry Regiment, and was soon promoted to corporal. Marty was shot in the thigh at Gettysburg and spent the remainder of the war with the Second Invalid Detachment at a hospital in Philadelphia. Af...
